Hot on the heels of my interview with the unflappable and fabulous L’Oréal, today we have a real special treat. Another nightlife legend in Kansas City who makes an oh-so brief cameo on the first page of my book, I present you our next Xtravaganza Interview with the eternally graceful and wonderfully wicked Melinda Ryder, with whom you can get your picture taken with at a fundraiser called the Mary Princess this week! This event is a benefit for GLAMA, the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America held at the Kansas City Museum (3281 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, MO), you can find out all about from the link HERE, and it happens 7-9PM this Thursday, December 12.
Charles Ayres (CA): Howdy Melinda! I’ve always wanted to know, what are your keys to the longevity of your success in the entertainment business?
Melinda Ryder: Being kind and realizing that you are not the center of the universe. Encouraging new talent and being lucky enough to have a wonderful, creative and supportive husband. Also, you should never take yourself too seriously.
CA: You and I both love movies, and this year’s Oscar race for Best Actress is going to be killer. You’ll have veteran stars like Dame Judi Dench (Philomena) and Meryl Streep (Osage County) against slightly younger but equally talented actresses such as Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine). Who do you believe will be the victor and why?
Melinda: I absolutely adore Judi Dench, so she could walk away with it. I think Oprah was fabulous in The Butler, too.
CA: Christmas is almost here. Have you been naughty or nice? What do you want Saint Nick to bring you?
Melinda: I’m always just little naughty but in a nice way. Ha! I really don’t need anything from St Nick. Life is good unless he has some pull at the lottery!
CA: And if you could have any Hollywood hunk kiss you under the mistletoe, who would it be?
Melinda: The guy from The Mentalist. Ooh baby!
CA: Simon Baker? I loved him in The Devil Wears Prada, too. You have good taste! Back to drag talk, when you really want to bring down the house, what are a couple of drag numbers you perform?
Melinda: Some of my go-to numbers are “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by Natalie Cole (below) and “O Holy Night” by Sandy Patti.
Special thanks to Melinda Ryder once again for taking the time to talk to Impossibly Glamorous. By all means, don’t walk BUT RUN to Melinda’s event this Thursday, December 12th from 7-9 PM at the Kansas City Museum. Have a cocktail, get your picture taken with Melinda and raise funds for a great cause. Once again, the link with the information is HERE, and you can also call Rebecca Schroeder at (816) 483-8300 ext. 1402 to get all the details you need. Tickets are $25, but that’s a small price to pay to enjoy such a CHRISTMAS event DRIPPING WITH GLAMOUR!
